Mates return to sail in glorious fashion

Skate 963 sailed by John Jefferson and Peter Sullivan

Second place in Heat 2 NSW State title at Toronto on the weekend.

TWO mates sailing together for the first season since winning national crown 15 years ago took second place on Sunday in one of two heats of the NSW State Title for the Skate class contested on Lake Macquarie over the weekend.

John Jefferson and Peter Sullivan were just children when they sailed to national glory in their boat Demon in 1993.

Now back together as a team, the pair are sailing in a boat aptly named Possessed.

Entries from Sydney's St George Sailing Club took up the challenge for Toronto Amateur Sailing Club's Annual Regatta at the weekend.

The Sydney boats dominated, taking the primary three places of the first heat in Saturday's blustery conditions and choppy seas.

Local sailors had the edge on Sunday.

Toronto crews took out the second heat.

Sunday's winner was the father-and-daughter team of Peter and Tegan Scott in their boat, The Welshie II.
